JMKAC celebrates Louisiana culture
SHEBOYGAN - Part song, part story, part procession and part dance, Cry You One comes to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center for one show only at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 8.
Cry You One celebrates the people and cultures of south Louisiana while turning clear eyes on the crisis of the region’s vanishing coast. Follow the fiddles and join award-winning theatre ensembles Mondo Bizarro and ArtSpot Productions for an unforgettable look at the interconnectedness of land and culture.
Cry You One draws audiences into an exciting interactive evening of rhythms, hypnotic melodies and street parade call-and-responses that intersect and intertwine in a powerful musical and theatrical journey about the effects of one of our country’s worst environmental disasters, the human displacement it caused, and its relevance to other communities.
“We’re thrilled to have a chance to do this work here, in Wisconsin, near the shores of Lake Michigan,” said Cry You One director Kathy Randels. “Let’s see what we can manifest, together.”

Weather permitting, the first half of the performance will take place outdoors on the Arts Center Festival Green. The performers and audience will move indoors via procession for the second half. A beer social with the artists will follow the performance.
Prior to the show, the Arts Center’s ARTcafe will feature a Louisiana-themed menu for those who like to make it dinner and a show. Reservations are recommended.
The Arts Center’s focus on Louisiana culture continues on Saturday, June 10, with the Community Festival: Louisiana. Creole and Cajun cultures will be explored through food, art making, music and stories.
The festival, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes a performance by Cry You One artists and the screening of the film "My Louisiana Love." Filmmaker Monique Michelle Verdin will be on hand for a Q&A following the screening.
Tickets for the June 8 evening performance of Cry You One and beer social that follows are $29 ($24 for Arts Center members). Community Festival: Louisiana tickets run $10 ($8 for members), children under age 2 are admitted free. Visit jmkac.org, call 920-458-6144 or stop at the Arts Center for more information and to purchase tickets to either event.
