Nicola Sturgeon and the Scottish government have committed to a deposit return scheme for plastic and glass bottles, as well as aluminium cans.
Shoppers will pay a deposit of ten or twenty pence per container, which will be refunded when they return the container after use. This is part of the government’s effort to cut down on plastic waste.
