Firefighters are tackling a huge blaze at the University of Bristol.
The university confirmed an “ongoing fire” in its Fry Building, which is located close to the Wills Memorial Building - an iconic feature of the Bristol’s skyline.
Students have been evacuated from the library, with the university announcing: “Everyone’s accounted for.” No injuries have been reported.
Bristol University tweeted: “We’re aware of an ongoing fire in our Fry Building, which is currently being refurbished. Everyone’s accounted for.”
The Fry Building is currently in the middle of a £33 million refurbishment, and was due to re-open in the spring of this year.
Avon Fire and Rescue confirmed that it was dealing with a fire at the university, adding that there are “no reports of any injuries at this stage”.
“We are dealing with a fire in the top floor of a five storey building,” the force said in a statement.
“Crews are on scene with two turntable ladders, attempting to extinguish the fire. We also have six pumping appliances to assist in control of the fire.
“There were no hazardous materials involved,” the spokesperson continued.
“The building was a university building under refurbishment but no persons were inside at the time. Crews continuing to extinguish fire.”
An investigation will be launched in due course, they added.
Locals have been warned to avoid a number of nearby roads, including Park Street, Park Row and Whiteladies Road.
The Wills Memorial Library has also been closed until further notice.
